Descubriendo: la costa de Levante

Is being a while since we did not have one of these entries on the blog, so we decided to come back in a big way. This week…. Discovering: The Levante Coast. We are going to take a walk in the East Coast of the Spanish Peninsula. The Levante Coast located in the east of Spain, from the northernmost point of the Valencian Community to Almería. This coastline is undoubtedly one of the areas that attracts the most British tourists from all over the country, thanks to the calm waters of the Mediterranean, its ideal climate, and its extensive beaches of golden sand. It also has many beautiful towns, natural parks, and cities full of culture and history. Are you looking for a romantic destination, a family vacation, or the ideal place for a trip with your best friends? The Levante Coast has it all. Here we leave you a list of the best places that you will never forget.

Valencia

This is a good week to talk about Valencia. Why? Because the Fallas are happening this week, the most popular celebration at the Turia Capital.
But not everything is the Fallas, Valencia has all kinds of cultural and leisure activities. You cannot miss its famous Cathedral or the City of Arts
and Sciences, a modern architectural and cultural complex that in 2007 was one of the winners of the 12 Treasures of Spain contest. The city has some huge urban beaches, we recommend Playa de la Patacona, which is not usually as busy as others in Valencia. 10 km south of the city you will find the Albufera Natural Park, a coastal lagoon where you can take boat trips and enjoy nature.
In Valencia you also have available oyr Eurochange Valencia exchange office, located in an unbeatable area, in the heart of Plaza de la Virgen, in the center of the city, where you can change your pounds into euros or any currency you need.

Alicante

Speaking about playing with fire we could not forget about Alicante and the Hogueras, but we Will have to wait some time for this celebration, but that’s no reason not to talk about Alicante. In June we Will be able to enjoy the Hogueras but until then Alicante has much to offer. After Valencia, the best-known city on the Levante coast is Alicante. It has much more than beaches, like museums and an old town full of life. You don’t have to choose between city or beach because Alicante has the best of both. In Alicante, on calle Castaños 6, you will find Eurochange Alicante, where you can change your currencies into euros or buy the currencies you need for your trip.

Murcia

Just a bit to the south we can find Murcia, as they say in there: what a beauty. A dreamy city where we can enjoy the best of the beach and the countryside. In the southernmost part of the Costa de Levante, we find Murcia, whose coastline is known as the Costa Cálida thanks to its warm waters and the sun that shines more than 3,000 hours a year. The salty lagoon of the Mar Menor has a destination in which to rest and enjoy the sea and water activities. The coast has numerous virgin spaces, beaches such as San Pedro del Pintar and Cartagena, and curious landscapes such as the erosion of Mazarrón. About 5 kilometers northwest of the university city of Murcia is the Castillo de Monteagudo, on an impressive rocky outcrop that rises 149 m above sea level. And of course Murcia is not less than Alicante or Valencia when talking about Eurochange offices, you will be able to visit us at the Avenida de la Constitucion, 9

Córdoba: Crosses, patios and fences

Córdoba: crosses, patios and fences

Hello there again Eurochangers, this week we bring back something we already talked about but with a refreshing point of view. We are talking about Córdoba: crosses, patios, and fences. Many of you probably know that Córdoba is an Andalusian city, but you may be asking yourself: what is with crosses, patios, and fences? Let’s us explain it.

Córdoba

As mentioned, Córdoba (spain, since there is another Córdoba in Argentina) it is Andalusian city on the south of Spain. Funded by the Romans in the year 169 b.C. as a military settlement. The name means “city of the river” with a clear influence of the Guadalquivir River

But cordoba has a clear Muslim influence, during centuries the city was part of Al-Andalus. But his is not a history lesson, we mention this because all the traditions we are talking about today have one thing in common: the flowers. And this comes from the Muslims traditions as well.

Crosses

The crosses of May, during May Cordoba dresses up in flowers. Yes, flowers, because the crosses we are talking about are not naked crosses. More than 70 flowered crosses are planted all over Córdoba. The tradition does not stay there, there is the popular “going to crosses” which means going around town visiting all the crosses and having a drink and something to eat on the street stands that are all around town.

And we said
we were looking at this with a refreshing way, and this is because we want to tell you how to do things not just what to do. At Mylittleadventure you can find a gastronomic tour around the crosses of cordoba for just 30 euros. It´s 2
hours walking tour where you will enjoy the views and the food of this beautiful city. And of course, you will go by our Eurochange office places on #12 Deanes Street, where you could exchange all your currencies into euros.

Patios

Will you open your house to estrangers for them to see the flowers in your patio? Well in Córdoba that happens every may. But this is not just for fun, there is competition to be awarded with the best patio every year.

There are 4 different routes to visit all the patios, but you can watch them from home. The Cordoba city hall launched an app for you to enjoy the whole experience, but we can tell you is not the same as in person. You can check all about it at their YouTube channel or downloading the app

Fences

More flowers are involved in this tradition as well. We are not talking about a garden fence obviously, the right translation probably will be window bar, but fences sound better. And it is just that, dressing up all the house fences with flowers to give the city even more color in May.

There is also a contest to find the best balcony or window decorated, who knows maybe this year we try to decorate our Cordoba office. You can check out some free tours here and come check it out at #12 Deanes Street because im sure even if we don’t have flowers there, we have amazing exchange rates and the best Money Agent to help you in all your currency needs.

New 2024 Notes

New things are always exciting, anf for Eurochange, in our world, the world of currencies, the release of new notes (bills) is as exiting as it gets. Lots of countries release notes every year but is not common for the most common currencies to update their notes. At Eurochange we not just exchange currencies, we also like what we do and everything that goes on around it. And this is a topic that we really enjoy. Let´s check the new notes 2024.

Why new notes?

There are many factors that are involved in the creation of a new bank note. We can summarize them in 3: security, design, and event. As the technology advances there are new security measures for the notes and new ways of counterfeit them. That’s why sometimes countries decided to change their notes in order to protect them. Design will be another reason to “update” a note. Some of the world´s notes were designed decades ago, and some of them look out of date, so countries create new notes. And there is another reason, historical events. Some events change the world, and the currencies. When Queen Elizabeth died the pound suffered a redesign in order to show King Charles on the new notes. Some countries also decide to print special notes to commemorate special events.

As we mentioned just now, the pound is one of the notes that are going to change in the near future. Another common world currency as the Japanese Yen is also going to change in this 2024. But we are not just going to tell you about these changes, we would like to show you and tell you when, why and how.

King Charles Sterling Pounds

Most of you probably seen sterling pounds before, many of you probably used them on the past if you traveled to the UK, and for the longest time those pounds were identified with Queen Elizabeth´s image. But many of you probably did not know that Queen Elizabeth held the world record for appearing in most notes from different countries, we will talk about this some other time. But now we are focusing on the new pounds and when, why, and how they will change.

The pound will change to show the new King of England, King Charles. The new notes 2024 pounds will be in circulation mid-2024, and the main reason for their change in design its to commemorate the actual head of the state and the commonwealth, King Charles. All the sterling pounds will now show King Charles instead of Queen Elizabeth. A fun fact about these new notes is that King Charles will be facing the opposite way than Queen Elizabeth did, and this is due an old tradition that states that each change on the currency has to change the way the monarch faces. Check here the new pounds

The New Japanese yen

Japan is country that holds their culture and tradition in a high value. Even there is counterfeit of every currency out there, the Japanese Yen is not a common counterfeited currency. But also, the Japanese Yen did not change as much other currencies with the past of time. Last redesign was in 2004 and it was not a complete renewal of their notes. The 10.000-yen design is being the same since 1984 for example. And that proofs they are a proud culture and tradition.

In this case there all the factors for a new currency design converge. By mid-July 2024 the new Japanese yen banknotes will be in circulation. The new notes 2024 will incorporate new security measures as hologram technology to prevent counterfeiting. The new design will incorporate the image of some of the most recognized faces in Japan, as the founder of the first Japan National Bank, or the founder of the women´s college Tsuda University. But also, this change is due to the revealing of the new era in Japan, Reiwa, under the new emperor’s reign. As a new era begins, the new notes will represent change, advanced and future for Japan. More info about this release here.

Eurochange

At
Eurochange we make sure to stay on top of what is going on in our industry, so we are not only doing research about the new notes 2024 to show you about these changes we train our Money Agents about all the currencies: past, present, and future. Our company
culture goes further about this topic, and we don’t just exchange the current currencies in circulation, but also, we encourage all of you Eurochangers to bring the currencies you have no matter when and where they from. We will at
least give you some info about them free of charge, and maybe we can exchange them for you.

Happy Weekend Eurochangers

Currency exchange history

As you all know Eurochange is a leader in the currency exchange market. And we tell you about many things in this blog week after week, but this week we decided to give you a history lesson, more precisely the currencies exchange history.

US-Economy-growth

USA

The United
States of America is not one of the oldest countries in the world, but it has been
a key component is the currency exchange. Most of the important events that changed
the currency exchange history will take place in the US. Let´s see those moments so important for the currency exchange history.

Currency Exchange History

The trade goes back as back as history does, it was the way of living. But it was not until medieval times that banks were born. But even banks existed there was not a way to trade currencies because it was not a standard.

investment in real gold than gold bullion and gold coins

Gold Standard

The gold standard will be what we know today as the rate. Each currency value was directly related to the price of gold. This way the weight of gold you could buy with your currency will be as much as you could sell that gold and get paid in another currency. Simple, neat, easy, clean…. Wrong.

5fa45291b5f5c

World War I

When the World War I started, in order to be able to be able to afford the military projects, most world powers printed more money. By doing so, the value of the gold was no longer a good standard, it´s prize was too volatile depending on the country or the currency. The gold standard returned between wars, but it was finally gone by 1939.

brettonwoods

1944

22 of July 1944, Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, USA. A hot summer day when the allied members decided that the US dollar will replace gold as the standard for currency exchange. But it had a twist, the US dollar was worth the equivalent in gold. All was good will 1971 when Richard Nixon stopped the gold sales since the US was no longer able to back up all the gold from the central banks around the world.

1629206936

1971

This time the “meeting” took place at an iconic place, the Smithsonian. A new treaty was made based on the one from Bretton Woods. The decision was to link the prize of gold officially to the dollar at 38$ per ounce. The idea was great, this way all the currencies will have their own rate with the dollar and the dollar with the gold. Wrong again! The value of the US dollar collapsed in a few months, but from this wrong, a lesson was learned, and then…

1985

Back to a luxurious place, the Plaza Hotel in New York where Japan, the German Federal Republic, France, and the United Kingdom took a drastic decision: Devaluate the US dollar.  Who would think that making money worth less was the answer? Well, they did, and they were right. On September 22nd by doing so the United States fixed their deficit and helped coming back from the 80´s recession. This helped international commerce and the result was a bigger level of currency exchanges.

Today

From that point on is easy to know what happened: technology. With the improvements of technology every day the information flows much faster and easy to receive and understand. The globalization made possible that each currency has a value in another currency, and we do not need to evaluate if that comes from the dollar, or gold, or anything else. Also, that’s our job. At Eurochange we take all those factors and many more into account to offer you amazing rates to exchange your currencies. Why calculate 3 times if you can just see how much your money is worth in another currency just by clicking (the word clicking its actually clickable and you will be able to calculate any currency exchange with the euro)

We hope you enjoyed this quick history lesson but don’t think about it to exchange your currencies into euros or vice versa, as we said that´s what we are here for, so visit us, call us or contact us, and we will provide you with the best customer service out there.

Happy New Years

Happy New Years

Is not a typo, we really meant to say Happy New Years and we will show you why in the next lines. We are so used to celebrate New Years on January 1st, but some of you from other parts of the world will disagree with us about that date.

There are more than 20 different New Years around the globe, and we decided to take a look at some of those new years’ celebrations. Let’s go.

Gregorian Calendar

The most known new year, as we said in the intro, is the one that falls into January 1st. Is the one that corresponds to the Gregorian Calendar and is called like that because it was the pope Gregory XIII who promote that initiative on 1582 in Europe. As many other traditions, the calendar was exported from Europe to the rest of the world and that is why many countries use that calendar and celebrate new years on January 1st.

Chinese New Year

Probably the most famous new years after the one we just talked about. One curiosity about this celebration is that doesn’t fall on the same day every year. The Chinese New Year is celebrated during the first new moon after the winter solstice, so usually falls in January or February. Some other curiosities are that lasts more than a week and each year is dedicated to one of the 12 animals from the Chinese zodiac.

Islamic New Year

Different to the Gregorian calendar, the Islamic calendar only 354 days so, as the Chinese New Year, the Islamic New Year falls under a different day each year if we look at it from the Gregorian calendar. The celebrations start on the sunset the before the first day of the Islamic year but is not the kind of celebration we are used to. The Muharram, as it´s called, is more an introspect celebration with family, prays and meditation.

Jewish New Year

If we look at the dates from an occidental calendar point of view, this is another new year that is not fixed on the calendar. The Jewish New Year is based on the phases of the moon, and usually falls in autumn during the months of September or October according to the occidental calendar. Kinda similar to the Islamic New Year, starts on the eve of the new year, followed by the Yom Kippur (Day of Reconciliation). On the night of the Rosh Hashaná, that is how is called, people eat sweet fruits to start a new year with a sweet taste.

Happy New Year to all

From Eurochange we would like to wish you a happy new year to all of you no matter where you from. Each year we have the pleasure to have clients from all over the world and for every culture out there, that is why we will love for you all to have an amazing 2024 no matter when starts. And if you decided to travel around the world to experience all the new year´s celebrations out there, make sure you visit our website when you will be able to buy or reserve the currencies that you would need for those destinations.

December´s long weekend

December´s long Holliday Weekend

This week we are having one of the most expected days for everyone in Spain, we are talking about the Holliday weekend that goes from December 6th until December 10th , which is called December´s long weekend. This is what we call in bridge. But why is it called a bridge? And which holidays include? What to do during these days? Well let’s explain all this.

Why is a bridge?

In Spain we call a bridge to what is known in English as a long weekend. That usually means that a holiday falls into a Monday or a Friday. But in Spain is also called when a holiday falls into Tuesday or Thursday, since many people take the day off in the middle to enjoy a much longer weekend. That is where the term Bridge comes from, because is like we build a bridge between the 2 holidays taking that extra day off.

Which days are actually a holiday in this December´s long weekend?

In this case the 2 holidays are the 6th and the 8th of December. This year those 2 holidays are on a Wednesday and a Friday, which allowed many people to take Thursday off and enjoy a 5 days weekend.

December 6th is the day of the Spanish Constitution. In Spain we celebrate the constitution, which is the document where all Spanish rights and obligations are written.  On December 6th, 1978, the Spanish citizens voted in favor of this document, and that is why is celebrated on this date.

December 8th is the day of the Immaculate Concepcion. This is a religious holiday that celebrates the birth of the Virgin Mary, mother of Christ. An many holidays, this one has its origins on the Christian religion.

Those 2 holidays are considered unmovable, which means that doesn’t matter on which day of the week they fall, that’s the day the holiday will take place.

What to do in Spain during this long weekend?

Well, there isn’t enough entries in this blog to show you how much Spain has to offer during this weekend. But what I can tell you is what Spanish families do. Is it common in Spain to spend these holidays decorating the houses for Christmas. Also, most cities already have the Christmas decorations up. There are plenty Christmas markets in a lot of Spanish cities which are full of Christmas food, decorations and other things celebrating the magic of Christmas.

And what Eurochange has to do with all of this?

Long weekends are always a perfect excuse to travel. Many Spanish people used this one to travel all over the world and many of them used Eurochange to exchange their euros into foreign currencies. At the same time, many people for overseas know of the existence of this long weekend in Spain (as most of you know) and they feel like a perfect opportunity to visit our county. For those, Eurochange gives them the chance to exchange dollars or exchange pound or exchange any foreign currency into euros at any of our offices around Spain. So, if you are in Spain enjoying this long weekend or you return from it, make sure you come to Eurochange for all your currencies ‘needs.
