Every year they are celebrated on the Saturday before Christmas Eve in the city of San Fernando, the capital of Christmas in the Philippines. People from all over the world flock to see the festival. Eleven villages (barangays) participate in it. There is a great rivalry to see who builds the best lantern. At first the lanterns were small and were made with hapon paper (Japanese paper) and a lighted candle. Today the festival has evolved and there are lanterns of more than 12 meters with floral shapes or religious symbols. Now the lanterns are lit by bulbs that create kaleidoscopic patterns and dance to the music.

GÄVLE'S GOAT, SWEDEN.

The Yule goat is one of the oldest symbols of Christmas in Sweden.
