{"id":5641,"date":"2014-09-16T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-09-16T10:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eurochange.es\/blog\/2014\/09\/16\/5-pound-note\/"},"modified":"2023-07-25T14:36:19","modified_gmt":"2023-07-25T12:36:19","slug":"5-pound-note","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eurochange.es\/blog\/en\/currency\/5-pound-note\/","title":{"rendered":"5 pound note"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A few weeks ago we mentionned that the <strong>UK<\/strong> will be the next country to leave the old paper notes and <strong>start to manufacture the new polymer notes<\/strong> (a thin plastic sheet) (see <a href=\"https:\/\/eurochange.es\/en\/blog\/currency\/pound-sterling-passing-plastic\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"The pound sterling passing to plastic\" rel=\"noopener\">pound sterling passing plastic<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Polymer 5 pound note\" height=\"189\" src=\"https:\/\/eurochange.es\/uploads\/uploads\/blog\/old\/billete 5 libras polimero.jpg\" width=\"350\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Well, the first note to be manufactured in polymer will be &pound;5 and it will see the light in 2016. The final aspect will be very similar to the present note: the image of the Queen of England on one side and the Winston Churchill on the other.<\/h3>\n<p>The Bank of England conducted a <strong>campaign of public consultation<\/strong> to decide if they should implement this change. Around 13,000 people participated in the campaign. A 87% were in favor of the change, a 6% against and a 7% neutral.<\/p>\n<p>The polymer banknotes were used for the first time in Australia in 1998.<strong> This material allows the note to incorporate security measures that cannot be given in the paper cotton note<\/strong> and in addition its more durable and resistant. <strong>The unique feature of the polymer banknotes is the possibility to include a transparent window<\/strong> and more security measures that can not be applied to the traditional notes.
