We propose 4 destination to travel in Christmas

If you are planning a breakout or a trip for Christmas, we give you 4 ideas to organize your holidays and get yourself (or not) into the Christmas spirit.

Rovaniemi (Finland)

Rovaniemi is the capital of Finnish Lapland, in the Arctic Circle. It is a relatively modern city since after the Second World War it was practically destroyed and had to be rebuilt.

Besides being able to enjoy a snowy landscape and get to know the culture of the Sami (first settlers of the region), you will be able to enjoy many other activities such as snowmobiling, sledding or seeing northern lights, skiing or snowboarding.

But the main attraction for which today we include Rovaniemi in our list of destinations for Christmas, is that in the city is the official residence of Santa Claus, Santa Claus Village, which makes it a perfect visit, especially to travel with children. In the village of Santa Claus you can go to meet him, personally deliver your letter or take a gift purchased directly from the Christmas factory.

Copenhagen (Denmark)

Christmas Market - Copenhague, Denmark

In the countries of northern Europe Christmas is lived in a very special way and Copenhagen (or entire Denmark) is the perfect example of a fairytale Christmas. There are 5 Christmas markets in the city, the most important is the Tivoli Market, where you can eat and drink typical products of Danish Christmas such as glögg (hot wine drink), gingerbread cookies or fried donuts stuffed with jam.

You can’t fail to try the special Christmas edition of Tuborg beer, whose launch in the month of November has become a national event that heralds the arrival of Christmas.

If you want to do some Christmas shopping, the city is perfect as it has shopping areas scattered throughout the city where you can find everything: from second-hand items to the most avant-garde Danish design products.

New York (USA)

Rockefeller Plaza - New York, USA

In the United States Christmas is a time of family celebration and the Christmas spirit invades every corner, especially in the city of New York, where you can live a Christmas film. If the city is already attractive because it reminds us of the thousands of movies and television series that have been shot in its streets, at Christmas it is no less.

You can stroll through Central Park as Kevin McCallister in "Home alone 2", ice skating on the Rockefeller Center track as Jonathan and Sara in "Serendipity" or receive the New Year in Times Square as the protagonists of "New Year’s Eve". But we hope you don’t stay "locked" in the airport as Viktor in "The Terminal".

Films apart, the streets are filled with lights, trees, ornaments and Santas. Also, if you are lucky enough to have a snowfall, the landscape will be amazing. You can do Christmas shopping in the most popular international stores or drop by the most alternative quarters to buy handmade products, by local manufacturers and with a lot of personality.

Phuket (Thailand)

Lanterns - Phuket, Thailand

If you are one of those who try to run away from Christmas, Christmas carols and ornaments, we are sorry. In the 21st century it is practically impossible to find places where it is not celebrated since even in the Asian and African countries it is a party that has spread and is usual to be celebrated, especially in the most tourist areas.

Passing Christmas in Phuket can be a different experience, with options to escape the Christmas classics. The winter months are the best option to visit Thailand since the temperatures and humidity will not be very high and there will be no rain, so you can enjoy the charms of the island, its beaches, its islands, its tropical forests,…

Being at tourist areas, you are likely to see Christmas decorations or hotels and restaurants offer a special dinner for Christmas Eve. In addition, there is usually a lantern festival where hundreds of people throw their lanterns with their wishes to heaven at night.

Whether you love Christmas or if you can’t stand it, there is little time for the date to get closer, so if you still don’t have a plan, don’t wait any longer to find transportation and accommodation. And if you already have it, don’t hesitate to tell us. We love listening to your travel plans and can help other travellers to choose their destination.

Good trip!
