Travel back in time visiting its monuments

In Beijing you will find a great contrast between modern buildings (many of them built for the 2008 Olympics) and antique buildings. On your journey you absoulty have to visit some monuments: Three essential are The Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven and the Summer Palace.

Stralling through the hutongs

The hutongs are alleyways that make up the Old Beijing, on these streets you can find typical Chinese homes. These are homes in which rooms are distributed around an inner courtyard. Some of these homes were built centuries ago and some of them are disappearing being replaced by modern buildings. You can enjoy a stroll through the hutongs of Shichahai, Quianmen or Jinsitao.

Try the street food

In Beijing you will find many markets and food stalls. However, two of the most desirable markets are Donghuamen Night Market and Wanfugin Snack Street. In them you will find food stalls to sample the most popular dishes of Chinese cuisine but also the more exotic specialties such as multiple varieties of insects, bats or starfish.

Soak the Chinese contemporary art

In today's Beijing its not all about tradition and ancestors, there is also a stream of contemporary art that has gained strength in recent years. In the neighborhood known as 798 Art District you can see for yourselves. In the year 2002 different artists and cultural organizations in Beijing they set their sights on this industrial neighborhood, they transformed their factories and industrial buildings into art galleries, homes, art studios, design studios, restaurants,… Since then the 798 has become a neighborhood that is very fashionable. Do not miss it!

Get to know the where abouts: the Great Wall of China

The Great Wall of China was built and rebuilt over the centuries B.C. V and XVI A.D. to protect the country from enemy attacks. Today only 30% of the construction is retained. One of the most popular pieces of the Great Wall is the closest to Beijing. It is about 90km and there are companies that organize trips to visit, just make sure before the tour starts that it does not include visits to factories or shops as it is very common to include this in the tour.
