The Dollar is Low: Travel Now and Save on Your Vacation!

Have you been dreaming of a big trip? This is the sign you’ve been waiting for! The US dollar has dropped, which means your travel budget can stretch much further in some of the world’s most spectacular destinations. At Eurochange, we want you to make the most of this opportunity. That’s why we’ve put together a complete guide to the best countries to visit right now and practical tips to get the most out of your euros.

Savings Comparison: How Much More Can You Spend?

To give you an idea, with a favorable exchange rate, for every €1,000 you exchange, you could get a significantly larger amount of dollars than a few months ago. This translates into:

  • In the U.S.: An extra night at a hotel, a ticket to that Broadway musical you’ve been dying to see, or one more day of car rental to drive Route 66.

  • In Mexico or Panama: Upgrading your resort room, splurging on luxury dinners, or booking that private tour that seemed out of reach.

✈️ Top 5 Destinations Where the Dollar Goes Further This Summer

  • United States (🇺🇸): The classic destination that never disappoints. With a more affordable dollar, it’s the perfect time for that dream summer trip. Think of the lights of New York, the beaches of Miami, the national parks of California, or the fun of Las Vegas. Ideal for shopping for tech and brand-name clothing, renting a car, and driving its iconic highways.

  • Mexico (🇲🇽): Although its currency is the Mexican peso, its economy is closely tied to the dollar. A weak dollar against the euro benefits you indirectly. Enjoy the Riviera Maya, Cancún, or Tulum with their all-inclusive resorts, excursions to Mayan ruins, and a cuisine that will make you fall in love.

  • Ecuador (🇪🇨): This South American country adopted the dollar as its official currency, so the benefit is direct. Discover nature that is unique in the world: the Galápagos Islands, the majesty of the Andes, or the vastness of the Amazon await you.

  • Panama (🇵🇦): Another destination that officially uses the dollar. Panama is the perfect combination of a cosmopolitan city, lush nature, and a shopping paradise. Don’t miss its famous canal and the colonial charm of its Casco Viejo.

  • The Caribbean (🇧🇸🇧🇲🇰🇾🇻🇮): Destinations like the Bahamas, Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, or the Virgin Islands have their currencies pegged to the dollar or use it directly. They are synonymous with luxury, relaxation, white sandy beaches, and a perfect climate to disconnect.

💡 Practical Tips to Take Advantage of the Exchange Rate from Spain

Before you pack your bags, smart money planning is key to real savings.

✅ 1. Buy Dollars Now at Eurochange Don’t wait until the last minute. If the dollar goes back up, you’ll regret not exchanging your money when the price was lower. At Eurochange, we guarantee the best exchange rate with no hidden fees.

✅ 2. Cash and the Travel The smart strategy is to diversify. Carry a portion of your budget in cash for small expenses, tips, or purchases at local markets.

✅ 3. Avoid Exchanging Currency at the Airport This is the most common and most expensive mistake. Exchange counters at airports apply much less favorable exchange rates and high fees. Plan ahead and exchange your currency at Eurochange before you travel to ensure maximum savings.

Don’t let this opportunity pass you by. The world is waiting, and now, your money takes you further!

Pounds or card? What is the best option to travel to London?

Pounds or card: The best option to travel to London

If you are preparing a trip to London or to another city in the United Kingdom, you will surely have asked yourself this question: What is better to travel to London, carry Pounds or pay by card? At Eurochange we always recommend that you carry, if not all, at least part of your budget in Pounds in cash. We explain why.

Comparative between Pounds in cash VS card to travel to London

Advantages and disadvantages of paying by card in London

In the list of advantages of card payment in London or in the UK in general, we only found one (which also has its cons): protection against theft. But it also has its not so good part. It is undeniable that if someone opens our backpack and steal our wallet, as soon as you realize you can cancel the card. The problem is that right now contactless cards have a minimum amount for which you do not have to put the pin. If your card is one of them and you do not have this functionality blocked, in a moment the thief can charge you a few expenses without you realizing it. Also, if you only carry a card and it is stolen, you are out of money and unable to get more.

The main disadvantage of carrying cards to pay in London is that you will not know the price you pay for things until you check your bank statement. Since when making a payment of say 25 Pounds, your bank will set its rate and it is also possible that a commission will be applied for having to convert Pounds to Euros. And you don’t know the rate or the commissions in advance. So until you have made the payment and you verify it in your account, you will not truly know the total that you have paid in Euros. Yes, there are banks that do not charge commissions and work with the market rate. If this is your case, go ahead. Take your card and pay with it. Of course, do not forget that carrying some cash is important just in case.

Another point against cards is that not all shops accept them. Although there are more and more places where you can pay with any type of card, including kiosks or bus tickets, there are always places where they do not accept card payment. For these cases it is necessary to carry some cash and so we are sure that with a card or with Pounds in cash we can make the payment.

Another disadvantage is privacy. Sometimes we do not realize it, but both daily and when we travel, if we make all our payments by card, our bank or the card issuing entity knows all our movements. Carrying your Pounds in cash and paying with them is the best way to maintain your privacy while traveling.

Advantages and disadvantages of bringing Pounds in cash to London

The main disadvantage of carrying Pounds in cash to London is the possibility of theft and the danger of carrying a lot of money together. It is true, if you carry all the Pounds of your trip in your wallet and someone steals it, you have lost everything. But there are ways to prevent this from happening. The first would be not to carry all the money together every time we leave the hotel. The vast majority of hotels offer in-room safes. A good idea is to take only the Pounds that you are going to use during the day and leave the rest at the hotel. Also, don’t leave everything in your purse or inside your backpack. If you can carry something in a pocket, another part in a backpack pocket, another part in the wallet. But it is always better if you leave the large amount in the hotel and bring just enough for the day.

As for the advantages, the most important is that from before you leave home you know what things are going to cost you. If you have purchased your Pounds in advance, you will know the price you have paid for them. If you paid € 1.15 for each Pound, you can easily calculate that something that costs 20 Pounds will cost you 23 Euros. There are no more expenses or surprises later.

Another advantage is that you can pay with Pounds in cash anywhere. Except for some ATM only for cards, but there will always be an alternative option to pay in cash. For example, in the metro ticket machines there are some that are only for cards and others that have both options.

And finally, another important point in favor of carrying Pounds in cash to travel to London, is that you can have better control of spending. When paying by card, sometimes we lose track of what we are spending on vacation. Carrying your budget in cash will make you have more control over what you spend every day so you do not exceed your budget or spend more than you thought.

The best option to travel to London is…

According to our experience and the experience of our clients, the best option is to bring the Pounds already exchanged from Spain. Of course, you also have to carry a card for regular use just in case and a credit card doesn’t hurt (for unforeseen expenses, to rent a car, …).

Our recommendation is to change to Pounds the money that you have destined to spend during your stay in London. Upon arrival at the accommodation, separate what will be used each day and leave what is not needed in the hotel safe. Also, remember the trick of carrying money in different places like the wallet, a backpack pocket and the pants pocket.

If what you are worried about is that you have excess Pounds, with our Buy Back Service you will be able to return the remaining Pounds at the same price that you paid for them. Check the conditions on our website.

Discorvering … Mojacar

Descubriendo uno de los pueblos españoles con mas encanto: Mojácar

It´s being a while since we have done one of this post. So, we decided to take it back with one of the most interesting towns of Spain: Mojacar. Beautiful town with all your needs there but also…with mystery. Let´s see what we are talking about.

Mojacar´s History

Mojacar is an interesting town because of it´s history. It is well known that Spain was conquered by the Muslims in the past, and it was re conquered by the Christians. Mojacar did not surrender, neither fought the Christians. Being a Muslim town, and after all the area around was re conquered, the Mojacar´s warden (that was the name of the governor back then) tried a friendly approach that was welcomed by the Christians. He said that his culture and his life was there and that he grew up side by side with Christians as friends and brothers, so he will not surrender as a Muslim to the Christians since for him they were all habitants of the same land. This was something different to the Christians, but they accepted and from them one of the biggest traditions of Mojacar was born: Moorish and Christians.

Mojacar: Town

Yes, we did not make a mistake, we want to talk about Mojacar town because there is more to know about Mojacar, but we will talk about it later. Mojacar is one of the most beautiful Andalusian towns. Really one of the biggest tourist destinations in the area.
The gazer at the old town´s New Square gives you a prefect view of where you are at and a taste of Mojacar´s History. Clean white houses next to each other with narrow walkways that show it´s Muslim origins. And also, from here you can see another thing that makes Mojacar Unique: The Mediterranean Sea.

Mojacar: Beach

Mojacar has more than 17km of beaches. And its not the beaches and the Mediterranean Sea, along the beach there is where Mojacar really lives. You will be surprised of how good you can eat at those seaside restaurants. The night life is amazing around the seafront, bars, and clubs for all ages. Also, plenty street markets and attractions that will make your trip unforgettable. Some of the most famous beaches are the Playa de la Torre (Tower Beach) or Playa del Alarrobico (no translation available), do not forget to visit them.

Mystery

All we finally got to the mystery part. Some of you may heard about it, some of you may not, but there is a myth that says that Walt Disney was from Mojacar. Crazy right? Well maybe not. The myth says that back in 1940, the FBI or Disney employees were in Mojacar looking to find information about one José Guirao Zamora, who was in fact Walt Disney. His mother left Mojacar to go to Chicago where she had a brother, once there she got sick and died and his son was left with some neighbors to be raised as their own. There is no paper trace of Walt Disney born in Chicago, but neither it is of Jose Guirao Zamora being Walt Disney as an infant child in Mojacar. Today, still many questions to be asked about, more without answers, but it is a curiosity that needs to be told.

Eurochange

You know it, we know it, everyone knows it. Eurochange must be in an amazing town like this one. Mojacar is one of the places where Eurochange opened just to offer you the best service our there. As we mentioned, Mojacar is one of the top tourists’ destinations in Spain, and we at Eurochange are there for make you currency exchange easier and a wonderful experience. Each year we give you a better exchange rate from pound to euro, same with dollar to euro and with the rest of the currencies. But we are not just there for the tourist, we also have many currencies available for the people of Mojacar to exchange if they are going on a trip. So come to Mojacar, visit the old town, go to the beach, come to Eurochange, and try to solve the Walt Disney mystery, we will be happy to be there to attend all your currency needs.

Halloween: origins and traditions

A view into halloween´s origins and traditions

Its Spooky time, and you all know what it means: Halloween. Even this is not a Spanish tradition there are some connections with Spain on the origins of this celebration, so let’s see where Halloween comes from and those connections.

Origins

In case you don’t already know, Halloween comes from a pagan celebration, the Celtic festival of Samhain that celebrated the harvest at the end of the summer. And the date, November 1st comes from the eight century when pope Gregory III designated this day as the day to honor the saints. And you may ask you: What saints have to do with Halloween? Well, November 1st is All Saints Day, a tradition celebrated in many countries to honor those who departed. And here comes the amazing part: the word Halloween comes from “All Hallows Eve” which literally means the day before All Saints’ Day. One of them is a Christian tradition, the other one is pagan.

Tradition

Since both traditions have different origins, they also have different celebrations. While Halloween is festive, All Saints´ Day has more of a mourning vibe attach to it. In Spain, during All Saints´ Day the tradition its to visit your departed loved ones at the cemetery, bring them flowers and “spend” some time with them. But in Spain we also embraced the Halloween celebrations the night before, so each year more and more people celebrate it doing Halloween things that we will see next and where they come from.

The Pumpkin Carving

This tradition was originated in Ireland and comes from the myth of man call Stingy Jack (that’s why the carved pumpkins are called Jack-o´-Lanterns). Initially there were no pumpkins craved, they used turnips, that’s right turnips. The myth stays that Jack trapped the Devil and negotiated a deal to never go to hell. When Jack died, his soul was not wanted on Heaven neither, so he had to wander around earth as a gosht for eternity. And why a turnip? Well, the Devil gave jack a lighted turnip to light his way, and that’s where the tradition comes. With time people started to make scary faces on those turnips to scare evil, and now its just for fun.

Scary Costumes

This tradition comes back to the Celts, and the idea that, during the celebration of this festival the goshts that were around earth would come attracted by the celebrations. So basically, they were using camouflage. They dressed as goshts in order not to be identified by the real goshts and be able to enjoy the celebrations without being punished. Pretty clever if I may say. Nowadays we all know is not about how much you look like a gosht, is more about how good we can look dressing up as something scary.

Trick or treat

There are different theories about the origins of this tradition, but we are not going to bored you all with a long long text about it. We are just going to see them quickly.
1-    The Celts used to leave food and other goods to the gosht at their doorways, so with time people started dressing up as goshts to get that food.
2-    The Scottish during the Middle Ages used to collect food in exchange for prays during All Souls Day. The tradition dropped the religious part and stick to the going door to door part.
3-    Comes from a German-American tradition: belsnickeling. During this Christmas tradition kids dress up and go to their neighbors for them to try to guess what they are dressed like. And the price is candy.

Ok ok we are not part of Halloween, but from Eurochange we just want to wish you a Happy Halloween and of course offer you our services of currency exchange. Why Cash?

Reasons for using cash

Nowadays we are used to the so called “plastic money,” but as you all know we mainly deal with cash at Eurochange. And even many people could think that cash is dying we are going to see some reasons why to use cash instead of credit or debit cards.

Safety

Despite many people thinks that cash is less safe than credit the reality its quite de opposite. Studies show that most robberies and scams are made with credit cards or online banking. Also, even if you lose or get your cash stolen, it is just the amount you carry the money that is “at risk”. On the other hand, all your savings can be at risk if you get your bank app cloned or your phone stolen with your passwords saved.

Opportunities

Cash it is the most accepted currency in the world. We know cash is not a currency, but you get when we mean. Some countries are trying to get raid of the cash, but even in those countries cash is accepted. But also, there are other countries or places where they do not have the infrastructures or the technology to accept credit cards. And one small detail, you can do any transaction in cash no matter when and where, but you need electricity and internet to be able to pay with your credit card. Seems not important, but it is.

Privacy

Sometimes we think of privacy to the ability to do something wrong without anyone knowing, but that’s not it. Many people value their privacy just because they want to have it. We see everyday with the phone apps that you must allow them to track you. All that it is because privacy it’s a valuable thing. With cash, you have 100% privacy. Nobody tracks you; you can buy anything you want without anyone knowing what you decide to spend your money with. Also, you are outside the grind, which it means, no targeted advertisement or being part of studies.

Control

With cash we control what we spend, we can not spend more than we have, while with credit cards all your savings are available to be spend. Impulsive purchases are mostly done with credit cards, by the time you go back and check your account it is when you realize how much you spent. In the meantime, by using cash you know how much you have left at any moment.

Information

This one refers mostly to currency exchange which is what Eurochange does. People are used to pay with their bank cards all over the world with different currencies, while your bank account has your own currency. While most businesses accept overseas cards, the exchange rate at the moment of the purchase is the one you bank provides. So, you don’t really know how much you are paying or if you are getting overcharge for something unless you start doing math, and even then, most times is too late. If you exchange your cash to the currency of the country you are visiting you know exactly how much you changes and how much things cost, therefore you can decide whether to buy something or not having all the information.

Eurochange

And the most important value is us. Eurochange has offices all around Spain in order to be closer to you. We can give you’re the freedom, safety, and information you need while exchanging currencies into euros or euros into currencies. Also, our Money Agents are the best in the business and can provide you with all the information you need and want for free. And as we always say, we have amazing exchange rates but the best customer service you can find. Come to check it out!

Traditional Fiestas del Pilar

Fiestas del Pilar in Zaragoza

This year, like every year, Las Fiestas del Pilar will take place in Zaragoza. These traditional celebrations have its origins on the Christian tradition, as many celebrations in Spain. Let’s see what Zaragoza has to offer and when this tradition comes from.

It is believed that St. James the Apostol arrived at Zaragoza in order to spread Christianity. Once there, the Virgin Mary made an appearance in a marble pillar, from which the Christian Church should be build, at that place, on that land. There is the where the name Virgen del Pilar comes from (literally means the virgin of the pillar). The temple was built right there and stays nowadays, it was not even finished till the 20th century, but it is one of the symbols of the city.

The date of the celebration was moved thru the calendar until it landed on October 12th, same day of the Spanish National Day. While Spain celebrates his day on the 12th, the celebrations in Zaragoza are all week long. This year celebrations will start on the 7th and will take place until the 15th.

And what to do during these celebrations? Let me tell you some events you can enjoy during this week. First of all, the whole week is full of parades, concerts, street festivals and other events you can enjoy just by walking around Zaragoza. One of those events, a really cool one, is the Giants and Bigheads Parade. As they are called in Spanish: Gigantes y Cabezudos. People dressing as giants or with fake huge heads will walk around the city to the enjoyment of the little ones, or not that little.

There are also two offerings to the Virgen del Pilar, the most famous being the flower offering on the 12th. A 9 meters mantle will be filled up with flowers brought by the neighbors of Zaragoza, and by the visitors who want to join the celebration. A really spectacular picture to see the Virgin with thar beautiful flower mantle build by everyone who wants to collaborate. On the 13th, the next day, there is a food offering. More than 6 tons of food will be brought to the Church from Zaragoza and from all over the world. That food will be donated to those in need.

These festivities bring to Zaragoza not just people from every Spanish corner, but also from all over the world. Zaragoza it is one of the most important cities in Spain and that is why Eurochange had to be there. We have an office for you to exchange your currencies into euros. Sterling to Euro? Of course. Dollars to euros? Classic, yes! What about Australian or Canadian dollars to Euros? Yes, and yes. We could keep listing all the currencies we exchange into euros at our Zaragoza office, but you can also check them out online or come to our office and ask yourself. As always you will come for our amazing exchange rates, but you will come back for the best customer service out there.

And before I go, I want to give you a brief tease of what is coming soon. Soon you will be able to purchase your currencies online thru our website. Stay tuned for updates and to see when you will be able to purchase currencies online and have them delivered to you own home.

Top 3 Currencies

The 3 most traded currencies

A few weeks ago, we talked about the most valuable currencies in the world, this week we are going to talk about which ones are the most traded (exchanged). In this case we are going to talk about the top 3. And I hope you get surprised.

The US Dollar

I am sure most of you already guessed that the dollar was the most traded currency in the world, but did you know that 2,9 billions, that’s right billions, of dollars are traded daily? The reason for that is the dollar is not just because is the currency in the United States of America it is also because the dollar is the preferred currency for the federal reserves in many countries. This means that many countries operate daily with US dollars. That is why at Eurochange we have excellent exchange rates from dollar to euro and from euro to dollar, just to make your life easier and have our clients happy.

The Euro

Some of you probably were thinking that the British pound would be #2, but in this case the European currency takes the silver. While there are 2,9 billions of dollars being traded daily, there are 1,1 billions of euros. Probably some of those are just dollars to euros or euros to dollars, but the thing its that those two currencies are directly related. The fact that most European countries have the euro as their currency makes the euro to be the 2nd currency to cover federal reserves around the world, mostly in Europe of course. At Eurochange we have the euro as our main currency, which means that we can exchange any of your currencies into euros, and if you want to buy currencies, the euro is the currency you need to pay with.

The Yen

And you though the pound for sure would be third, well, is not. The Japanese yen takes the bronze. 554 millions daily being traded around the world. Japan is a strong manufacturer which makes them an exporting country. And why does that matter? It matters because Japan it is also a really cultural country and really attached to their traditions. The Yen is their currency and, even they trade with other currencies, the Yen still being really their currency of choice. That is why if you are travelling to Japan make sure you have some Yen and, yes you know it, at Eurochange we can exchange your yen into euro or euros into yen with some amazing prices, but make sure you make your reservation, since it is a really popular currency. And, in my personal opinion, some of the most beautiful notes out there.

Coming soon

We will be talking about other currencies soon, but I though it would be nice to leave you wanting some more. For those of you that are waiting to see where the British pound is ranked, I can only tell you one thing… at Eurochange, doesn’t matter where the pound is ranked you will still be able to exchange your pounds to euros. And if you want to travel to the UK, you can also exchange your euros to pounds. I don’t need to tell you, but I will, you will find amazing exchange rates at our locations, and of course, the best customer service out there.

Top 5 strongest currencies 2023

Ranking the top 5 strongest currencies by 2023

Ok for once we are going to talk about money, but not a boring post about boring stuff. In this week´s post we are going to talk about which are the strongest currencies in the world by 2023, and just an advance, no there is not The Rock coin or Connor McGregor coin, we are talking about the regular currencies. Spoiler alert, they will surprise you.

On top of the list, we have the Kuwaiti Dinar. Taking the us dollar as a measuring bar, one KWD (Kuwaiti Dinar) equals to 3,26 USD (United State Dollar). The KWD was initially pegged to the GBP (Great Britain Pound) in the 60´s when it was born but now is another whole story.

Numero 2, Bahraini dinar (BHD). One of those BHD can give you up to 2,65 dollars if you are exchanging currencies in the right place. Again, another relatively young currency that was born in 1965 and also was pegged to the pound sterling now being pegger to the American dollar.

On third position and closing the podium we have the OMR, Omani Rial. In the currency exchange market, the value of one OMR equals to 2,60 American dollars. 1970 was the year the Omani Rial was born, and guess what, also pegged to the US dollar.

Forth, which still a really amazing position among all the currencies in the world, we have the Jordanian Dinar (JOD). I know I said at the beginning that there were not celebrities in this ranking, well Jordan is not the basketball player is also a country in the Middle East. But this currency could be related to Michael Jordan because as him, it’s an all-star.  For one Jordanian Dinar you could get up to 1,41 us dollars. This currency it’s a bit older than the previous three, born in 1950, but still not as old as most currencies we usually known, excluding the Euro of course.

And fifth but not last, well last this week but more to come next week, an old friend of us appears on the top 5. The British Pound (GBP) also known as pound or sterling; this currency is well known all over the globe. If you exchange British pound to dollar, you will get around 1,22 depending on the moment and company of course. The British pound on the other hand it´s one of the oldest in the world, it´s being around since the 1400s, and sticks around.

You probably see some common ground on the first for currencies: Middle East, Oil, cultural similarities. But right now, in the world those are the strongest currencies. And all those countries, and the UK of course, are really lovely places to visit. And another common ground it´s that the exchange value is from USD, well if you are visiting our website and you want to know how much those currencies will be exchanging in euros, just check the store closest to you and check the current exchange rate between euros and all those currencies. So, if you are planning to visit Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Jordan or the UK, please make sure you make your reservation at Eurochange. We will be more than thankful to offer you amazing rates from euro to those currencies and, as I always say, the best customer service out there.

La Tomatina (The tomato´s battle)

The battle of the tomatoes at Buñol (Valencia)

What would you say if someone throws a tomato at you? And what would you say if thousands of people throws tomatoes at you and to each other? What about you throwing tomatoes all around? Well, if your answer to this question is not a laugh this article is not for you.

If you did not figure it out by now this article is about the "tomatina", which is hard to translate to English but mostly means tomatoes all around. This old tradition started not as a tradition in 1945 at Buñol, a town close to Valencia. A few youngsters started a battle, and they decided to use tomatoes to throw at each other instead of rocks, smart decision, and after they had more fun than rage the people of Buñol decided to do it year after year, and did not miss a single year since then.

August 30th is the date of this year's Tomatina but the tomatina day is not just the fight. The activities start early in the morning. The city of Buñol gives away pastries to everyone that comes to the town main square really early at 9 in the morning. People start coming, eating and trying to get a ham. Yes a ham. The city places a full ham on top a soaped pole to see if someone is able to reach it. While eating the first pastries of the day, people enjoy watching how one after another try to go up that pole and fail miserably.

And then 11 o´clock comes around, and then a gunshot is fired to the sky indicating the start of the battle of tomatoes. A single truck full of tomatoes makes his way into the city main square and the ones on the truck are the first ones to throw the first tomatoes from the top of the truck. Once the tucks are in the middle of the square it dumps the thousands of tomatoes that was carrying and people start collection their munition and start the battle.

In a few minutes the whole square turns red, not from blood, but from destroyed tomatoes. A few more trucks keep coming into the square and provide tomatoes to everyone that wants to stay in the battle. After a while, and when all the trucks have completed their mission, a second gunshot is fired. This second gunshot means that the battle is over. Time to get clean, and for that, the city provides hoes that spray everyone that wants to which cold and clean water to get cleaned out.

Sounds like a good party right? Buñol is probably not the most known city in Spain, other than for this tradition, but if we tell you that is close to Valencia probably that sounds more familiar.
