Withdrawal of the 20,000 Hungarian Forints note

There is a 20,000 Hungarian Forint note out of circulation

In a previous post we gave you information about the Hungarian Forint notes, their history and denominations.

And today we inform you that since December 31, 2017 one of the banknotes of the old series of Forints is no longer in circulation: the 20,000 Forints note.

So we remind you that currently there are two series of Hungarian Forint notes:

  • The old series: only the notes of 500, 1,000 and 10,000 Forints are legal tender
  • The new series: whose denominations are 2,000, 5,000, 10,000 and 20,000 Forints

If you have a note of the old series that is no longer in circulation, the only way to change it is at the National Bank of Hungary, where they exchange them for the new equivalent legal tender note at no cost.

If the ones you have are valid, you can change them to Euros in any of the Eurochange exchange offices.

And if what you need is to exchange your Euros to Hungarian Forints to travel to Hungary, you can make your change at any of our offices with currency selling service or you can directly buy Forints right now on our website: BUY NOW!

On May 5, the Bank of England withdrew the old 5 Pound paper note from circulation. In this way, the only 5 Pound note that is valid is the polymer one.

Since that day, we can no longer accept this banknote in our exchange offices, and it can only be exchanged at Bank of England branches.

100 and 500 Swedish Kroner

In 2015 the Bank of Sweden issued a new series of banknotes to replace the previous ones. Since then, the old notes have gradually been withdrawn from circulation.

On 30th June 2017, the two remaining notes will be withdrawn, the 100 and the 500 Kroner. Although there are still weeks left, for reasons beyond Eurochange, we will not be able to continue accepting these notes in our exchange offices.

If you have some of these notes, you can still change them or use them in Sweden until the end of next month.

In 2014 the National Bank of Hungary also began with the task of renewing their banknotes of Hungarian Forint. In 2016 they issued the last notes of this new series: 2000 and 5000 Forints.

On 31st July 2017 the Bank will withdraw of circulation the old notes of 2000 and 5000 Forints, who will be the firsts to leave the circulation. As with the Swedish Kroner, for reasons beyond Eurochange, we will not be able to continue accepting these notes in our exchange offices. History

The Florin as we know today was introduced in Hungary in 1946 to stabilize the Hungarian economy and to curb inflation. Hungary joined the European Union in 2004 and is expected in the not too near future leave the Forint to join the common currency.

Notes and coins

Forint banknotes are 500, 1000, 2000, 5000, 10000 and 20000. On the front of the banknotes appear different historical characters from Hungarian royalty and nobility. On the back appear landmarks of the country: the Castle of Sárospatak, the Hercules Fountain (Budapest), the Széchenyi's mansion at Nagycenk, the Castle of Esztergom and the old House of Commons.

Forint coins are 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 Forint. On the coins appears the coat of arms of Hungary and various representatives of the flora and fauna of the country.
