5 tips for traveling to Denmark

Things to keep in mind before planning a trip to Denmark

Are you going to travel soon to Denmark? Get ready for a Christmas fairytale. Below we give you 5 tips for a magical winter holiday in the Danish territory.

Christmas market - Tívoli garden

1. Christmas markets

In the northern regions the Christmas atmosphere is intense and on the street! In spite of the low temperatures, the Danish themselves love to go for a walk, buy typical products, have a glass of Gløgg (mulled wine that is often taken at the time of Advent) or a small snack between friends in the many christmas markets which are installed throughout the country. Since mid-November you'll find christmas markets by parks and squares and you'll be captivated by the Christmas spirit.

2. Weather

The Danish winter begins in December, however if you have chosen to travel at the end of November, you'll find low temperatures with a minimum of 0 ºC and maximum of 12 or even some drizzle of sleet. Bring warm clothing and a good insulating shoes will be the key to success. If everything is waterproof, much better.

3. The currency

The official currency in Denmark is the Danish krone. We recommend that you exchange your euros to krone before your trip, especially to pay for the first "purchases" such as tickets for public transport or taxis that take you from the airport to the hotel. It is also advisable to carry cash in DKK to pay in those places where they do not accept bank card. If you pay with your bank card, you should inform before the travel and ask about the commissions charged for making payments in foreign currencies. You can check the exchange rate of the danish krone (DKK) in Eurochange

4. Christmas Cuisine

The star dish of the Danish christmas is pork roast with potatoes and red cabbage. However, you should not pass up the opportunity to taste typical dishes such as salmon or herring. As for the drink you'll find a wide variety of wines and beers. However, we recommend that you look for Julebryg, this is a special beer for Christmas that the Tuborg factory (one of the major Danish beers) makes a little stronger and darker than normal. If you're more a sweet tooth, you'll love the classic gingerbread biscuits.

Mermaid of Copenhague

5. The little mermaid in Copenhagen

The little mermaid in Copenhagen is the most famous symbol of the city. The legend says that a fisherman from the city was bewitched by a mermaid on the edges of the port while he was fishing. Finally the mermaid resigned her immortality in exchange for being endowed with the aspect of a woman and to be able to live happily together with her beloved. It is located in the bay of Copenhagen, close to the port. If you are visiting the city, you won't want to leave without be photographed next to this enigmatic monument.

Whether we have convinced you of the charms of this country and your now preparing a suitcase or  already had a trip planned, remember that in Eurochange you can exchange your euros to DKK at the best rates. You can also make a reservation to ensure that your amount is available for the date of your trip.

The best beaches in Benidorm

Discover the best beaches in Benidorm, Alicante

The beaches of Benidorm are well-known throughout the world because of all the tourists who come from other countries to the city, it is the city for tourism of excellence in Spain and especially on the Costa Blanca. Today we want to devote a space on our blog to the wonderful beaches of the city.

On the Benidorm coast you can find several different types of beaches, suitable for all tastes:

Levante Beach

The most recognized of Benidorm and the busiest is without doubt. It is a fine, white sandy beach, 2 km in length by about 40 metres wide. It is easily accessible (has access for disabled), its located in the area of Rincon de Loix, on Alcoi and Madrid avenues.

This beach receives swimmers who enjoy sunbathing comfortably in the sand, also receives athletes who have fun with cable water ski which was the very first in Spain. Also on Levante beach you can find a multitude of restaurants, bars, ice cream parlors, hotels,… ideal to spend the day and complete your beach experience.

Playa Poniente Benidorm

Poniente Beach

If you like the fine, white sand beach but you prefer a less crowded in a quieter area of Benidorm, then Poniente beach is your beach, its also in a commercial area, full of bars and restaurants but with a more relaxed atmosphere.

It is a beach with more than 3 km in length, with children's areas, tracks of volleyball, perfect to spend a day with the family or with friends. Its renewed and picturesque walk is highly recommended for jogging, skating or biking (it has a bike lane).  You will find it at Armada Española and Vicente Llorca Alos avenues.

If you prefer another type of beaches more intimate then we recommend la Cala tio ximo, Almadrava or Mal Pas.

Cala Mal Pas Benidorm

The Cala Mal Pas

Mal Pas Cove is just the beach that separates the Levante beach from Poniente beach, its affixed to the port of Benidorm and is right at the foot of the Castle (your view from the looking point of the castle is one of the most emblematic of the city).  It is a small beach, 120 meters in length, white sand and very calm waters.

Cala del Tio Ximo

The cala Tio Ximo is a small beach about 70 metres long with a 6 metres wide approximately has a mix of sand and stones are characterized above all by its crystal clear waters. This in the Rincón de Loix, just at the foot of Sierra Helada. In spite of having reduced dimensions the cala counts with sun beds and umbrellas. After a good dip, for the lovers of trekking, we suggest you try the route that leads you to the cross of Benidorm, to enjoy one of the best views of Benidorm.

Cala Almadraba

The cala Almadraba, close to the Cala del Tio Ximo, it is a cove of similar dimensions. You can access it in car and like in La cala Tio Ximo you can also rent sunbeds or umbrellas in high season.

One of these charming places is Javea, a town in the province of Alicante, on the coast located between Denia and Moraira, a few kilometers away from Benissa, Jalon and Pedreguer. Jávea stands out among other things for their wonderful varied beaches and coves. Today we want to introduce you to some of the most recommended:

The Coves Pope-Tango: which are 2 small coves located in the Port of Javea, in the Marine Reserve in the Cabo of San Antonio, just below; if you don't like the sand, these may become your favorite place to enjoy the sea, since they are coves of stones.
