Respect for members of the Royal Family is everything. Twice a day, in public places, the anthem of Thailand plays and everyone stops to listen. In shops and establishments it is common for them to place small bank notes on which the King appears in the windows as a sign of respect. Disrespect can lead to fines and even prison. Be careful, if you drop a coin and step on it to stop it rolling, this is a sign of disrespect to the Monarchy because it carries the image of the King. In general, be careful with anything that has the image of the King or his family.

The gastronomic variety

In addition to classic Thai food to be found in almost any Asian restaurant; different varieties of meat with currys, satay shish pork kebabs, spring rolls and countless soups; you can try less common in the western world like the delicacies of fried insects. Temperatures usually range between 18 and 35 degrees. Usually it's recommended to avoid the rainy season, but that doesn't mean is has to interfere with your travel plans if you want to forget about this issue, choose to travel between November and April.

At lunch time…

In Thailand there are not certain hours for breakfast, lunch or dinner. They eat when they're hungry and what they feel like at the time. This is good because you will be able to find places to eat at almost all hours. People eat with chopsticks or a spoon and a fork. Spoon is for the right hand to take food to your mouth and the fork is for the left hand to "cut" and push. You can start practising the technique that convinces you the most for your trip.

Sexual freedom

In Thailand the acceptance of homosexuals and transsexuals is the order of the day. Transsexuals, (katoeys in Thai), have been called the third gender and although this recognition is not always reflected in legislation (eg, a transsexual can not change his gender identification) respect and normalization of their condition is far along than some other countries. In addition, they have specialized cosmetic surgeries designed to change gender: sex reassignment, breast implants, reduced facial features, widening hips, etc.

5 tips on exchange your currency into Euros in Spain

Things to keep in mind before planning a trip

If you are coming on holiday to Spain you will need to exchange your Pounds, Dollars, Krones, etc …into Euros. In Eurochange´s Customer Service we receive many inquiries from our customers and we wanted to gather the most frequently asked questions in a post so that it may be helpful when deciding where to exchange.

Tips on exchange your currency in to Euros

Where should I exchange my money at the airport, in any exchange office or in Eurochange?

Our advice is: ask, compare and decide.

Exchange offices at airports have a more expensive price than the exchange offices in the cities so we recommend that you only use in case of extreme necessity.

Like I said in the exchange offices in the cities have better prices. However, be careful. There are those who advertise a price but then they either charge comission or the price only applies to high amounts of money, or they advertise the selling price … In short, they find a excuse to apply another price and the customer only realizes when they have already performed the operation. You can see an example in this video we found on Youtube: Benidorm scam money exchange

In Eurochange will inform you of the price you'll be recieving, we do not want you to leave with the feeling of having been deceived.

Should i take money from an ATM or use my card in Eurochange*?

Take money from an ATM or use my card in Eurochange?

*In our exchange offices wich have a card payment service: Torrevieja, Punta Marina, La Zenia and Los Alcazares.

If you pay by card in Eurochange, the rate applied is the price determined by the bank. In addition, to pay by card has a fee of 2% of the transaction.

If you take money from an ATM, the rate is also decided by the bank, but also the cost of the service will be 4-6%. With which you will pay more for the same amount of Euros.

Do I have to reserve Euros before going to the exchange office?

As a general rule, we always have availability in our exchange offices. However if it is a high amount or you want to be sure that we have the Euros available, you can make a reservation. Remember that the rate applied will be the rate on the day you pick up your currency.

Is there any way to get a better rate?

Yes, there is. We have a loyalty system, Eurochange CLub. The members of our Club get a point each day they come to make a exchange. On the fifth day you will recieve extra rate.

Also, if you already are a member and you bring a friend to join we will give an extra point.

Do you accept all types of Pounds?

To date we accept Pounds from England, Scotland and Northern Ireland if they are legal tender. However, we recommend that you consult us before to make sure we can accept them. If you have pounds of other regions, we can also check whether if we could accept them. Just contact us and we will confirm whether it is possible or not.

If after reading our post you still have any questions, contact us, we will be happy to help you resolve it.

Enjoy the Bonfires and the night San Juan

Bonfires of San Juan are the official celebrations of the city of Alicante

There are various opinions on what is the origin of the celebrations of San Juan (Saint John). However, for one reason or another, it's celebrated nearly enough the same way in different locations all around the world.

San Juan in Alicante

The bonfires of San Juan are the official celebrations of the city of Alicante. In the beginning farmers celebrated the arrival of summer with parties and bonfires in the streets year after year, which were forbidden by the City. Finally, in 1928, with the intention of attracting tourists, the City Council decreed to organize the first authorized bonfires of San Juan. Since then, year after year more bonfire committees are created by the different neighborhoods of the city and has become an international tourist attraction.

However, it is not necessary to travel to Alicante to enjoy this celebration. In Benidorm and Torrevieja, there is also tradition to celebrate the Bonfires of San Juan. Bonfires Commissions of different neighborhoods mount their bonfire and barrack and whoever can come and enjoy the festival, which ends on the night of the 24th of June with the "cremà" (burning) of the bonfires.

Night of San Juan

One of the most popular acts, apart from the "cremà" is the celebration of the Night of San Juan (between june 23rd and June 24th). The night before the burning of the bonfires, in the towns of the coast of Alicante its traditional to go to the beach, light small fires to burn the bad experiences and take a purifying bath at twelve o'clock at night. In some locations it is possible to enjoy fireworks and musical performances.

In addition, the more superstitious have a wide range of rituals for their desires: jump nine waves to get pregnant, write three wishes and throw into the sea, jump the fire to be protected during the year… Don't forget not to look in a mirror that night or the spell will have no effect.

Whether you intend to perform a ritual to fulfill your desires, as you just want to enjoy one of our most popular traditions, do not miss the opportunity to visit the bonfires, witness the "mascletàs" (lighting of the firecrackers) and take a night swim at our beaches.

Remember that if you need money exchange, Eurochange has more than 10 offices in the province of Alicante. Find your nearest branch and exchange with the best rates.
